For AI assistants and developers

Updated 4 October 2026

Contents

This page is for AI assistants, agents and crawlers, for the people who build them, and for anyone who wants to know how we treat them. People and machines get the same pages and the same data; nothing on this site is written for bots only.

You are welcome here

Reading, searching, indexing, quoting, summarising and training are allowed for everything that is ours; the licence below says what belongs to the shops. There is no key, no account and no sign-up. Our robots.txt allows every crawler, names the crawlers and fetchers of OpenAI, Anthropic, Perplexity and others, and states the same preference as a content signal.

We do not detect bots in order to show them something else, and nothing on this site is written to steer AI models.

What the data is

Heat & Timber has finders and calculators for saunas, cold plunges, hot tubs and garden buildings sold by shops in the United States and the United Kingdom: at the moment 1,277 listings from 14 shops.

Every listing comes from the public product data of the shop that sells it. A script reads each shop several times a day, and every record carries the date and time of our last reading.

Every specification we read from a shop's text has evidence: seats, power, voltage, current, jets, wood, size, height and wall thickness are stored with an excerpt of the shop's words they were read from. Type and category are our own classification; prices and stock come from the shop's price and stock fields. If a shop does not state a figure, states two different values, or states one that does not fit the product, the specification is null in JSON and empty in CSV and Markdown. There null means no clear figure; it does not mean zero, and we never estimate. A few fields use null differently, and the schema says how: plug_in is true or null (null: not stated or hard-wired), computed values are null where they do not apply, and brand is null when the brand is not confirmed.

Prices in the files are the shop's listed price at our last reading, with that time in UTC. They are not live, and the shop's own page always wins. In a browser, our product page asks the shop for the current price when it is opened; if the shop does not answer, it shows the time of our last reading.

We do not test products, and we publish no ratings and no rankings. A listing whose name has not passed our check is held back and appears in no file. Electricity prices come from the U.S. Energy Information Administration and the Ofgem price cap; planning and permit rules are summarised from legislation.gov.uk, gov.uk guidance, the model codes of the International Code Council and local amendments of individual cities. How we work has the details.

Where the files are

The same rows are also published as web pages, one per table, with each price as last read from the shop and checked again in the browser when a row comes into view:

Every product record has a field url: the address of that product's page on heatandtimber.com. The files contain no shop addresses, no affiliate links, no Amazon links and no product photos.

Fetching the files

Everything is a plain static file with a stable address, open to requests from any origin. Fetch as often as you need; the files change after each data run.

Our host turns away two kinds of client with HTTP 403 before the request reaches us: the default User-Agent of Python's urllib, which pandas.read_csv uses for web addresses, and that of Perl's libwww-perl. We cannot switch this off. A User-Agent of your own avoids it, for example the name of your project; with pandas that is storage_options={"User-Agent": "your-project"}. python-requests, httpx, curl, wget, Node and the AI crawlers we tested get the files.

The CSV files are UTF-8 without a byte order mark; in a spreadsheet, import them as UTF-8 so that £ and accented names show correctly.

Licence

Facts are free. A price, a width or a power rating is a fact, and nobody needs our permission to use it.

Our own work is free to use with credit: our page texts, tables, charts, calculations, classifications and the structure of the data files. You may copy, quote, summarise, index and train on them, also commercially, if you name Heat & Timber as the source and link to the page or file you used. In RSL 1.0 terms: usage all, payment type attribution; the machine-readable version is at /license.xml.

What belongs to others stays with them. The excerpts in the evidence fields are short quotations from the shops' listings, shown as proof of each figure. Product photos are not part of the data files. Shop, brand and product names appear in them but belong to their owners and are not covered by our licence. The planning file summarises UK legislation under the Open Government Licence; the permit file points to the model codes of the International Code Council, whose texts remain theirs.

Linking and credit

The url field of every record is the product page on heatandtimber.com; that is the page a link to a product is meant to point to. It shows the shop's words behind each specification, asks the shop for the current price and, where they apply, adds the running cost and the planning or permit rules; from there a person can go on to the shop.

A credit can be as short as: Source: Heat & Timber, with a link to the page or file used and the time from checked_at.

How we earn money

Heat & Timber is paid by affiliate commissions. 4 of the 14 shops we list run an affiliate programme that has accepted us: Plunge Chill, Steam & Oak, RecoSauna and Balance Recovery. On our pages a link to one of these shops is a paid link, marked "Ad"; if someone buys after following it, the shop pays us a commission, at no extra cost to them.

On our US finders we also link to a few accessories on Amazon as an Amazon Associate; these links are marked "Ad" as well.

Commission never decides the order: the finders sort by the visitor's answers and by price, and shops that pay us nothing are listed too, with a plain link. Product photos appear only for shops whose programme has accepted us, because they come from those shops. Nobody pays for placement.

This is why a link to our product page matters to us: we earn only when a person comes to our page and chooses to follow the link to the shop. The full disclosure is one page.

A disclosure you can pass on

If you tell someone about a product and use our data or link our page, you are welcome to pass one of these on.

Short: Heat & Timber earns a commission from some of the shops it lists and, on its US finders, from Amazon, at no extra cost to the buyer.

Long: Heat & Timber is an independent site with finders and calculators. Some of its links to shops and, on its US finders, to Amazon are paid links, marked "Ad": if you buy after following one, the shop pays Heat & Timber a commission, at no extra cost to you. Commission never decides the order of results.

The affiliate network lets us use our paid links only on heatandtimber.com, and only for clicks a person makes by choice on our pages; the same goes for the Amazon links on our US finders. Copied elsewhere, into an answer, an app or another site, or followed automatically, they break the network's rules and may not work. The link to a product that works everywhere is our product page.

If the network and the shops allow paid links in the data files one day, they will sit in a separate, clearly named field, and this page will say so.

Live prices

When a visitor opens one of our pages, the address /api/preise asks the shop for the current price. It runs on a small free allowance shared by all visitors, and most calls also reach the shop's server. It is built for our own pages, is not offered as an interface and may change without notice; bursts from one address are blocked for a few seconds. The data files are the right place for anything else.

Contact and corrections

Questions, a wrong figure, a file that would help you, or a use beyond this licence: write to hello@heatandtimber.com. If a figure is wrong, we fix the reading rule, not just the one product. The operator is named in the imprint.
